In a plain "pick one" poll, three people who love A and four who are split between B and C hand the win to A even though six of the seven prefer B or C. Ranked voting uses everyone's whole preference order, so the option the group can most agree on rises to the top. rankit scores each ballot by position: with N options the top choice earns N−1 points, the next N−2, down to 0, then sums across everyone.
